About Us

School & District Profile

Flasher Public School is located in the city of Flasher, which has a population of 221, according to the 2014 US Census. Flasher sits in the southern part of Morton County and is 40 miles southwest of Mandan. The community has a variety of businesses such as: a bank, a credit union, a grain elevator, farm supply store with gas pumps, daycares, appliance repair and sales store, a couple of insurance offices, a coffee shop, a restaurant/bar combination, a gas station/pizza parlor combination, and an embroidery business. Many community members are self-employed farmers/ranchers. The community has two churches, a 9-hole golf course, a park and two ball diamonds. The community also has an active Mason’s group, Lion’s club, Knights of Columbus and American Legion association.

Flasher School’s enrollment is constantly fluctuating. Our enrollment stays between 230-250 students in grades K-12. At least 80 of the students attending Flasher open-enrolled from surrounding communities such as: Carson, Fort Yates, Mandan, St. Anthony, Selfridge, and Solen. Flasher’s largest class (2nd Grade) has 29 students and it’s smallest (5th grade) has 12. Flasher graduated 13 students in May of 2020. Enrollment is projected to grow slightly since Flasher joined an Academic Co-op with Carson in 2015 where Carson’s 9-12 grade students attend High School in Flasher.

The district employs around 25 teachers, 7 para educators, 1 fulltime counselor, 3 administrators (a K-12 principal, a K-12 Assistant Principal and a superintendent), a school secretary, a business manager, 3 custodians/maintenance staff, 3 cooks, 11 bus drivers, and a half time bus mechanic for a total of about 56 staff. Most of the staff live in the community. On average, Flasher has around a 95% licensed staff retention rate.

Flasher School, in addition to its own courses, is able to provide a variety of classes to its 7-12 grade students through use of the Great Western ITV system, CRATC course offerings, NDCDE online classes, and dual-credit college options. The school has a seasoned staff willing to work with students before and after school to help them finish homework assignments, understand a concept more fully, get caught up on missing assignments, and/or accomplish proficiency in skills that are below grade level.

The school prides itself on the number of offerings it has for athletics and activities that help build character, self-confidence, and teamwork in students. The school sponsors football, volleyball, basketball, track, golf, drama, speech, vocal music, instrumental music, FCCLA, FFA, and Student Council.

Notification of Interactive Dashboard

(School District Report Card)

Dear Parent/Guardian,

North Dakota has launched a new website designed to help communities across the state access important information about K-12 districts and schools. Insights features easy-to-read reports on multiple measures of school success, including:

  • Test scores
  • Graduation rates
  • English Learner progress
  • Student attendance

Insights, or more commonly referred to as the “Dashboard,” is part of North Dakota’s new accountability system. It is the next step in a series of major shifts in public education that have raised the bar for student learning, transformed testing, and placed the focus on equity for all students. To learn more about the state’s accountability and continuous improvement, visit North Dakota’s ESSA website.

To find out more information about our school, please visit Insights, at: https://insights.nd.gov and select ”Explore Public K-12”, then select “Data for Specific District or School”, then type “Flasher” in the search bar.

Please note, the data made available to the public masks or hides data for groups with 10 or fewer students to protect confidential information about individual students.

We have strong plans for working to improve the educational programs at our school. We would like you and your child(ren) to continue to be active participants in our educational system. Please help support our high expectations for student achievement by participating in the school educational initiatives, offering input and support in our endeavors to raise student achievement, or volunteering at the school. Meeting our school’s goals will take a united effort, and I look forward to working with our families to ensure success for each student.

Sincerely,

Brian Nieuwsma
